Whether you're a self-proclaimed sommelier or a not-so-civilized drinker, playing is easy as 1, 2, 3. Check out our How To Play Video or follow along with our 3-Step Instructions, and let's get into it!
Step 1: Set Your Deck
1. Choose your initial “Master Somm” (judge) by identifying the player who was most recently sippin.
2. Shuffle each of the three decks and place them face down. The decks are:
➺ Spill in the Blank and Side Sip cards shuffled together (questions)
➺ The Sip deck (answers)
➺ The Somm School deck (trivia)
Step 2: Let's Play
3. To start the game, each player draws eight sip cards. The Master Somm begins by drawing a card from the question deck and reads it aloud. The card read will either be a Spill in the Blank or a Side Sip card. The Master Somm does not answer questions during a round.
4. If a Spill in the Blank question is read aloud, players select the Sip card(s) that they feel best completes the sentence, placing it face down. Once all cards are played, the Master Somm reads all submitted answers aloud one at a time, placing them face up on the table as they are read.
5. If a Side Sip question is read aloud, players respond to the prompt aloud clockwise from the Master Somm and do not play any of their cards.
Step 3: Win and Play Again!
6. Once all players have selected their cards or shared their responses, the Master Somm chooses their favorite – whether accurate or ridiculous.
7. The player with the winning answer or response receives the question card as a Master Point and places it face up in front of them. A player wins once they have five total Master Points!
8. After the Master Somm appoints a winner (including any bonus points), the player to the right of the Master Somm becomes the new Master Somm. Players replace any sip cards that they played with new cards from the Sip deck to maintain eight Sip cards.
Bonus Points: Somm School
➺ Some of the Spill in the Blank questions randomly include “Action: Somm School!” In these rounds, the Master Somm draws a Somm School card and quizzes the player who had the winning answer by reading the question aloud. The correct answer is in bold font for the Master Somm.
➺ If the player gets the trivia correct, the Somm School card is then added to their point deck as an extra point. If the player answers incorrectly, the trivia card is discarded, and no extra point is awarded.
➺ After the Master Somm appoints a winner (including any bonus points), the player to the right of the Master Somm becomes the new Master Somm. Players can draw cards from either answer deck to ensure that they have eight cards.
